Here’s a quick and easy way to get a cool summer taste treat while making sure you get vitamins, protein and active cultures good for digestion. Best of all, you can whip it all together in just a couple of minutes.

HEALTHY TIP

Strawberries are not only delicious, but they also contain high levels of vitamin C and are a source for antioxidants. Yogurt is not only high in protein, but contains “good bacteria” that can help boost the immune system and promote a healthy digestive tract. Flax seeds contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. The soluble fiber helps reduce high cholesterol, and helps to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. The insoluble fiber helps move waste out of the body, promoting a healthy digestive tract, and possibly reducing the risk of colon cancer. Wheat germ is packed with protein, fiber, polyunsaturated fat, vitamins and minerals. It can lower cholesterol, fight colon cancer, prevent constipation and improve digestion.

INGREDIENTS:

1 banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup plain yogurt or soy yogurt
1/2 cup orange juice
1 tablespoon flax seeds
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar (optional)

PREPARATION:

Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
